Having to go to rehab for a minor first offense did not start me off on the best foot, but the more I came to group the more I enjoyed it. My initial assumption was that I’d be watching mind numbing power points on why “drugs are bad.” Luckily, the process was nothing like I had pictured. The setting was much smaller and less intimidating than expected and my group mates were for more relatable than the no-goods I thought I would be paired with. Though I entered bitter, I leave First Step today content with the progress I made and the struggles I overcame with the help of my peers and counselor.
