“I came to First Step voluntarily, but am glad I did. Have been struggling with abuse/ addiction, in retrospect, for a long time. But I didn’t realize or accept this until my recent struggles with Kratum- an opioid- like substance. I believe the program helped me in several ways. First, the educational content was good and very relevant to me. It helped me come to grips with the “reality” of my struggle. Second, I enjoyed and appreciated my counselors. It was clear they really cared… and helped provide feedback and crystallize insights throughout therapy. Lastly, the group interactions- especially the breakout groups- were helpful. I saw aspects of myself in other’s stories, and it helped me relax, and validated my experience.”
