    Monique Sorensen, M.A., LPC-A, LCAS-A

    “Monique began her journey with First Step in May of 2015 as a master’s level intern working with the adolescent program. She received her Bachelor of Art’s degree from North Carolina State University in Psychology and her Master of Art’s degree from North Carolina Central University in Mental Health Counseling. She also received a master’s level certificate in Substance Abuse Counseling from East Carolina University. Monique is a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. She is also registered with the National Board of Certified Counselors as a Nationally Certified Counselor and Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor.

    Monique was born and raised in Raleigh, NC although she did spend a couple of years in Miami, FL during her first two years of undergraduate studies. She currently works in our Raleigh office facilitating an outpatient substance abuse treatment group. Monique is our primary specialist working with Adolescent and Youth clients. She conducts the Wake County Public Schools ACE program. She is the counselor you’ll meet for our adolescent outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment groups, Wake County Public Schools ACE Program, substance abuse assessments, family counseling and other areas of our adolescent program.

    Monique conducts substance abuse and mental health assessments. She provides individual counseling with community and federal clients.  She works primarily from a person-centered approach but also tries to incorporate gestalt and cognitive behavioral techniques into her therapy sessions.”
